AWARDS

April 2012 - African Heritage Lifetime Acheivement Award, Nairobi, Kenya :
A Lifetime Achievement Award for exceptional documentation of disappearing African indigenous cultures and for a prolific photographic partnership spanning three and a half decades.

October 2010 - Lowell Thomas Award :
One of the most prestigious awards given by the Explorers Club, NYC, the Lowell Thomas Award honours men and women who have distinguished themselves in the field of exploration. Past awardees include Edmund Hillary, Isaac Asimov, David Doubilet, and Buzz Aldrin.

April 2010 - WINGS WorldQuest Lifetime Achievement Award :
WINGS WorldQuest is an international organization dedicated to supporting and recognizing visionary women in discovery knowledge and conservation. The Lifetime Achievement award honours women who are pioneers in the field of exploration and discovery.

March 2010 - Spanish Geographical Society Image Award 2009 :
The Image Award recognized Carol & Angela for excellence in the field of photography given the Sociedad Geográfica Española.

2009 - HP Indigo Award for DINKA :
Out of 450 projects from 170 countries DINKA was voted unanimously to receive first prize for the highest quality photographic book. DINKA is Carol and Angela’s limited edition book printed by R.E.Producciones in Santiago, Chile.

2009 - ForeWord's Photographic Book of the Year for "Lamu" :
Book of the Year Award for LAMU: Kenya’s Enchanted Island was announced at Book Expo America, New York City. ForeWord reviews awarded Lamu First Prize (Gold) in the Category of Photographic Book 2009.

Their extraordinary photographs are recorded in fourteen best-selling books. Their last book “Painted Bodies” (2012) follows “Maasai” (1980), “Nomads of Niger” (1983), “Africa adorned” (1984), “African ark” (1990), “African Ceremonies” (1999), “Passages” (2000), “Faces of Africa” (2004), “Lamu: Kenya’s enchanted island” (2009), and “Dinka” (2010).
