The birth of this French artist in 1950 was already marked with a geography that would determine his territory: Basle, on the Rhine with its three borders. For many years Bernard Guillot has divided his time between Egypt and France.

Two notions of time, two notions of civilisation, belonging to two places, but a unit of time and place, or an atemporality and extraterritoriality, seen in two ways: photography and painting, always with a taste for the extraordinary, for the enigmatic, for what is beyond the temporal.
Bernard Guillot holds as much in suspense in his photographs as in his paintings, a disquieting geography made of inexplicable rites and fraternal mysteries.
